Alder House

In Chigwell, Essex, the Alder House Steering committee was formed in 1978 and fundraising started to raise £350,000 to provide private adapted apartments.

Originally called Three Forests Cheshire home, the project was inaugurated by Leonard Cheshire in 1986 and opened in 1988 offering apartments with some communal facilities for 14 disabled residents. It was renamed Alder House in the late 1990s in memory of a legacy from that family.

The home has its own grounds and a lake which is home to a variety of wildlife, including some rare species. Every room in the home opens out onto the gardens.
